Improvement: CMDB Maturity

Like In Initial Phase of ServiceNow - Only Server Class was there and further it has child classes like Windows, Unix, Linux, and many more. Is there any plan to do breakup for Computer Class specially for Workplace for Laptop, Desktop, Workstation, Tablet, and Virtual Desktop?

This question is one that I've seen brought up multiple times, and the way ServiceNow has implemented Spokes, confuses the issue.

OOB there are already CI classes for different types of end user devices, including Handheld Device and Personal Computer. But it would appear these are not ServiceNow's preferred Class. This can be seen by looking at how some of ServiceNow's Spokes classify them. For us, we found the WorkspaceOne Spoke from ServiceNow places these all in the cmdb_ci_computer class. While ServiceNow's process does not make sense to me, we've followed that pattern, and then used the 'Form factor' field to delineate what type of computer it is.

Thanks Steve, Issue in Form Factor is big that It wont bring normalized outputs as sometimes in Computer Class - It brought values as Stand Alone, Rack Mount, and most of the times value is Empty so can not generate desired reports and results. Either we need to make use of Model Table and Add custom attribute as Asset Type to make things automated for reporting purpose and strategic decision making based via dashboards.

Are you using HAM product? Then the 'Device type' field populated on the hardware model records through the content service should be helpful.
