Hello! I'm a Service Management Lead. I was assigned to initiate and manage a project to mature our CMDB. Right now, it's just a repository of CIs, there's no service mapping or interdependencies. It's taking us a lot of time to identify the impact of incidents and delays its resolution. We are also challenged in change impact analysis due to the current CMDB that we have. Can someone here guide me to identify the tasks needed for this project. Please note that ServiceNow is owned and managed by our Client.

Please review the article on the different types of services in the Common Service Data Model (CSDM):
Start by exploring and mapping each of the service types mentioned there.
If you're already using ServiceNow Discovery, that's great—you're already 30% of the way there.
The next step is to identify the top 10 critical services in your environment. That will be the foundation for your service mapping effort. Be sure to:
-
Identify the service owners,
-
Understand where each service is hosted (on-prem, cloud, hybrid), and
-
Choose the appropriate service mapping method based on that.
I’m the ITOM Delivery Head in my organization, so if needed, I’m happy to support you through this process.
