Migration if CMDB Table

Hi all,

do any of you move your CMDB from one instance to another? If so, what steps have you taken?

If I transfer records from the cmdb_ci table via Excel to the target instance's cmdb_ci table, will it automatically sort the records based on the child table, or do I need to export them separately?

As far as my understanding says, you need to do different exports for different tables.

Is there any reason why cloning cannot be done to replicate the data from one instance to the other instance?

If cloning is not feasible for your scenario and if you need to move the data via exports, then move XMLs separately for each populated CI class. Ensure to start with populated child classes which are lowest in hierarchy followed by their parent classes (until the top-most hierarchy of populated classes are reached). Also once all the CI data is moved, remember to ensure that the CI relationship data from cmdb_rel_ci is moved as XML.
