Model Category: Treat Cameras Like Computers and map to alm_hardware

There is a OOTB "Cameras" Model category. The asset class for the category is "sn_ent_facility_asset", we'd like this to be alm_hardware like the rest of our assets. Since this can't be changed after creation, do I delete/disable this category and make my own for cmdb_ci_ip_camera - alm_hardware?

Changing the OOTB configuration always make me warry as I assume it's done this way for a reason. What would the impact be if I changed this Category? We have no current plans to use Facility asset.

It is not recommended to delete that category. If your organization decides to use enterprise asset management product in the future, you would need to use the OOB asset class and model category for various enterprise assets like this. So unless there is a genuine business reason to customize, it is recommended to make use of the OOB model category and the sn_ent_facility_asset table.

I wouldn't be asking if we didn't have a need. I suggestions of what to do, not of what not to do. Your reply seems to read "Force your technicians to use a different area of the platform for this one specific asset type because something you don't plan on using may be an option in the future", this does not seem reasonable. Technicians already have a hard time navigating ServiceNow, this will just exacerbate that issue.

Sounds like I'll just disable this one and make my own.
