Hi
Can anyone help me with the below requirement. I am completely new to CMDB and this is my first requirement in CMDB module. It would be great if any suggestions
Discovery / IRE Rules Updates for CI Class Expansion- For Enterprise connectivity (EC) Devices.
As a Configuration Manager, I want Discovery and IRE rules to be reviewed and updated so that manually created CIs are included in automated discovery reconciliation, ensuring full population accuracy and reducing data drift for expanded CI classes.
business value associated with this request. Elaborate on the selections above.: Ensures Discovery-managed and manually created CIs are consistently reconciled, reducing manual effort, preventing data drift, and improving CMDB population completeness for all expanded CI classes.
Thanks,
Anusha

Hi @Anusha Dande,
Since you're new to this: the piece that actually controls whether a manually created CI gets picked up by Discovery instead of duplicated is the CI Identification Rule for that class (CI Class Manager > your class > Identification Rule tab, or Identification/Reconciliation > CI identifiers). If the manual CI wasn't populated with the same key attributes Discovery uses to match (serial number, name, MAC address, etc, depending on class), IRE won't find it and just creates a second record. Separately, check the Reconciliation Rules tab on that class, that's what decides whether Discovery is even allowed to overwrite those fields once matched. Both are set per class, so for each expanded class you'll need to review and update both, not just one.
Thank you,

The presence of a manually created CI should not block the discovery of the same CI unless you set reconciliation rules that give Manual Entry a lower order number than Discovery. Check your reconciliation definition rules there, but that would be an unusual thing. What I see more often is manual entry misclassifying network devices as Network Gear rather than Switches, Routers, etc. Then, if there are incorrect or missing identification criteria we see duplicates.
