Track updates to CIs in CMDB Workspace

What is the best way to track changes/updates to CIs on the CMDB Workspace for CMDB admins?  Our users are currently looking at using the Comment field, but that is an open text field and can be accidentally wiped out at any time.  They are wanting something similar to work notes, but on the Configuration Item form in the Workspace.  Is there already a tool/field that will do this?

@Sara3  Enabling audit history on CIs will help you to capture the changes but if you are looking more for across different sources CMDB 360 is the way to go, it also has querying feature.
