Where should mobile devices (cellphones, smartphones and air card) be added, assets or CIs?

Hi all.

Just a general question. I know the definition of Assets vs CI but still torn if mobile devices such as smartphones, cellphone phones, and AirCard should be entered as Assets or CIs. For anyone who has done this, please let me know and provide some insight.

Thank you!

Mobile devices should be managed as CIs in cmdb_ci_handheld_computing table. Whether you need to manage those also as assets depends on your organizational requirement. If the organization wants to manage any of the aspects like financial information, warranty details, end of life, contract details etc. for those devices, then they should be considered as assets also. In that scenario, they will be managed as both CIs & assets. The CI record should be linked with their corresponding asset record for all mobile devices which are managed as both.

That is good to know Ashok! We are currently working on an integration with AT&T  but we do not have Service Graph Connector yet. Do you have any suggestions or tips that will help us along the way?

Thanks again.

Can you elaborate about the purpose of the integration and the exact tool name which will be integrated? Based on that, I'll see if I can give any inputs

The integration is for our mobility services. For example, a user creates a request for a new mobile device, upgrade, disconnect, change plan, etc. We will be using the AT&T ebonding.

I don't have much idea about that. But please check if the following store app is useful:

Thanks Ashok!
