CMDB / CSDM Business Service Hierarchy

Hello, 

ist it possible/good practice to set up a Hierarchy of Business Services in CMDB? I did not found any field to set a Parent/Child on a Business Service, but i think i can do this via CI-Relationship. Is there a recommended Relationship type for this constellation? The idea is to build up business service along our organisational structure for example we have top level Business Service Administration as Parent and at second level the Business Service: Facility Management as a child. Ist this good practice? Should every business service independent to each other if yes for what reason?

Hi MFO,

Business Services and Technical Services are not intended to be nested into each other. For this reason the parent field on these services is intended to reference a Service Portfolio record instead.

What are you trying achieve? Perhaps you can solve your challenge using portfolios.

Hi Casper, 

many thanks for your quick response. We do not connect technical services with business services. We want to build up a hierarchy of Business Services lik our org chart (Business Service is Parent of Business Services). With your help (thanks for the hint) i found the parent field on the extended business service table referenced to the service parent table (Not to a Service Portfolio). There is no child field on that table, but a parent field would be enough for us to build this hierarchy. We will also take a look the the Service Portfolio, maybe this fits bette. The link to the post is also very helpful for us.

I agree with @CasperJT 

The hierachy you are looking for for exist at the Portfolio level and the Service connecting to 1 or more Business Capabilities.
