I was in the K24 and fortunate to take a picture on CSDM 5 Draft at the CSDM booth on the expo floor. Interesting to see the Gen AI + Domain-LLM in the BUILD domain. @Mark Bodman, I missed both of your sessions at K24 but would be grateful if you can share some content about CSDM 5.0.

I have to give the CSDM 5.0 a chance, but I'm terrified how strongly it relates to IT4IT. IT4IT doesn't do a good job separating and/or connecting products, services and service lifecycle. I like the CSDM 4.0 version because SERVICES have the highest priority as they should have.

My first feeling is that this is a step backwards and many people will again be confused what is a service and what is a product. It's really funny that we have a totally fine definition about services and suddenly for example IT4IT wants to disguise them to digital products.

If somebody already gets the benefits of this confusion it would be nice to hear.

For example why suddenly Ideas need to be connected with Products? Ideas can be ideas that can connect to services, products, processes etc. Why would you want to stick with just Products?

There is no final CSDM 5.0 officially released yet, but there is a strong need to add digital products to the common model, what is not covered in the CSDM 4.0 yet. Some people started to analyse and use the preview, some others are even making Youtube videos explaining what has been shown until now. Like this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76Mb209fSGM

We are looking forward to see the final version, but started to integrate digital products in a different way. There are two major areas, where we want to have it different: we want to keep the application objects tightly and explicitly integrated into it and we also want to keep the services (and service portfolio), because we still want to rely on the Apptio TBM model. I will post a simplified version of what works for us.

ServiceNow CSDM 5 - Strategic Forecast & Analysis 🔥 Last week we had over 250 people registered for our CSDM 5 session. The upcoming CSDM version will bring many interesting improvements, such as: ✅ - Updated and simplified definitions ✅ - New areas of CSDM ✅ - Support of value stream modelling ✅

Core part of our simplified model. This works for us, but by no means is it good for everyone.

I thought I'd bump this thread as Yokohama is here and there are suggestions that it enables CSDM 5.0. However as far as I am aware CSDM 5.0 is not out yet. @Mark Bodman any news on an official release date?

With Yokohama the platform seems to be in some kind of halfway house:

  • When creating a new "Service Instance" in a Yokohama instance from CSDM > Manage Technical Services >Service Instance the wizard still refers to Application Service everywhere (see screenshot).
  • The individual sub-table names have not changed.
  • The CSDM menu contains modules for Service Instance Settings but also Application Service Dashboard.

Some clarification and clean-up of what's in ServiceNow would be appreciated.
