csdm Foundations Dashboard: Configuration Item Status Values

We have been asked to try to improve the scores we see on the CSDM Foundations Dashboard.  The first one I’d like to investigate is the Configuration Item Status Values.

The CSDM Foundations Dashboard is showing:

This is because we use some custom values for Operational Status and Install Status, as per the Customer Configuration Item Status Values chart at the bottom of the dashboard.

I have two questions  please:

  1. Operational Status = Ready and Install Status = Retired are out of the box values but are included in the Customer Configuration Item Status Values report.  Are these statuses “out of the box”?  do we need to get SN to fix our dashboard and improve our score?
  2. Are there any values that we could migrate to the out of the box value with minimal impact?  What improvement would it give to the score? kindly help.

Hey,

To fully answer your questions, it could be that a bit of background information is missing.

1) The operational status & install status

These statuses are indeed ootb, but not for all tables. The report is usually accurate, so check 2 things:

First: Are these statuses ootb for the table they are used in (hardware, product & logical objects follow different lifecycles). Also check if the actual lifecycle value reflects the same as the dictionary title (the number vs. the name).

2) Values to migrate to

Generally you should be able to map all values to ootb ones. However, i highly recommend looking into fully migrating into the CSDM lifecycle model as described here: Enabling life-cycle sync from legacy-to-asset

Moving forward it is very likely that ServiceNow will only use the CSDM lifecycles as all documentation for the previous model have been set to legacy.
