CSDM Recommendation

Hello Experts,

We are in the process of adopting the CSDM  and would like to get your input on how these should be modeled to fit the CSDM. Listed below are some samples of the Business and the hierarchy of their systems.

From what I have gathered all the Software/Applications like Informatica, SSIS, Tableau, SAP, etc..  will be part of the Application Service table > SSIS Prod, SSIS Dev, SAP Dev, SAP Prod, SAP Staging, etc. Is this correct?

How about the other items, which tables do they map to? Thanks in advance for helping us out with the CSDM  journey.

  1. ENTERPRISE DATA WAREHOUSE SYSTEMS
    1. Data Transformation Tools
      1.       Informatica
      2.       SSIS
    2. Reporting Management Services
      1.       Power BI
      2.       Tableau
  2. FINANCIAL INFORMATION
    1. Payroll Management System
      1.       ADP
      2.       Intuit
    2. Accounting & Finance Service Management
      1. QuickBooks
      2. SAP FICO

Good day,

yes that is correct. The example line distincts the different realizations per Business Applications on Application Service level.
One thing to add:
For SAP the functional level is the SAP module. If there are multiple Modules on 1 SAP system we often see that modeled as 2 layers of Application Services. (eg: SAP FICO and WM on the same system). So it is not a must like for Servicenow we don't model the module level that often, but for SAP solution I see it more often modelen as 2 layers of Application Services.

The level of Accounting & Finance Service Management can be modeled on the Consumption side (Business Service or the above taxonomy --> is this how employees recognize the service? or is this how reporting is structured?) as well as part of the Business Capability hierarchy (how are decisions made? --> funding).

BR,
Barry

Hi @Barry Kant, Thank you for your response. I just edited my post. Updated SAP module that is in use for the  Accounting & Finance Service Management: 'SAP FICO'.

Sorry, please bear my little knowledge of the CSDM framework as we are still in a crawling state. Trying to understand conceptually how these all fit into the ServiceNow OOTB tables. The hierarchy below including the 'First level' should be stored in ServiceNow and should show the relationship between them for the dependency view while reporting or using it for Service mapping or event management. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

  1. ENTERPRISE DATA WAREHOUSE SYSTEMS (First level)
    1. Data Transformation Tools (Second level)
      1.       Informatica (Third level)
      2.       SSIS (Third level)
    2. Reporting Management Services (Second level)
      1.       Power BI (Third level)
      2.       Tableau (Third level)
  2. FINANCIAL INFORMATION (First level)
    1. Payroll Management System (Second level)
      1.       ADP (Third level)
      2.       Intuit (Third level)
    2. Accounting & Finance Service Management (Second level)
      1. QuickBooks (Third level)
      2. SAP FICO (Third level)

I found the CSDM Data Model Examples to be very useful to show how to map to the tables.
