When modelling services and the relationships between these services, standard relationships realise technical services underpinning application service via an offering. I get that. But what about technical services underpinning other technical services. For example, a data centre could host the infrastructure that other technical services utilise.
Question : Are technical-technical relationships typically defined and if so, how? Does it make sense to define these relationships?

The relationships between Application Services can be modeled with Application Service Groups where the Parent Service Group depends on the contained Application Services. Service Groups may also contain lower level Service Groups to create a multi-tier hierarchy under a top level Service Group representing all IT Services. You can also model dependencies between Services in Service Maps. If Service Mapping is not being used, regular Depends on relationships can be created(and will be used by change impact analysis and event impact propagation). Technical Application Services(Infrastructure Services) are usually implemented using Query-Based Mapping(Dynamic CI Group) because there are no Entry Points to drive top-down Service Mapping.
The attached slide summarizes these relationships and how they are tie together. I use it to help customers understand the Gold ITOM("Run") quadrant of CSDM. Most customers have and understanding(in their heads) of what is impacted whenever some component in the Infrastructure goes down. The Application Service hierarchy captures these operational dependencies so they can be utilized by ITSM (e.g. ,Change management) and ITOM applications(Operator Workspace) to avoid outages and reduce the time it takes to restore service after an outage.

Hi Joey,
The Data Centre and technology located in the Data Centre (cmdb_ci_datacenter) would all be CI's as in attached image. The Technology Service Offering would be related to an Application Service depending on an Application running on 1 of the servers in the Data Centre.
