With the Yokohama release, ServiceNow continues to enhance governance and developer productivity—especially with the latest updates to App Engine Management Center (AEMC). In this Creator Toolbox episode, I sat down with Principle Inbound Product Manager, Brooks Hawkins, to walk through two key new features: App Summary Generation and App Readiness.

App Summary Generation

App descriptions are often neglected or out of date, which makes understanding scoped apps a challenge—especially for admins. The new App Summary feature in Studio auto-generates descriptions based on your app’s data structure. It analyzes each table and produces a readable, high-level summary. While it doesn't yet look at automation or logic, it provides a great starting point and can be used directly in the app description field.

App Readiness

Available through AEMC, the App Readiness report evaluates your app against a suite of 11 out-of-the-box best practice checks. This includes five core categories from the Instance Scan feature—like security (e.g., ACL coverage), user experience, and maintainability. Each app gets a readiness score, and you can drill down into failed checks or missing standards.

Brooks showed how this system is extensible—customers can add their own checks, and ServiceNow products like Impact will provide child suites with additional rules. While weighting scan categories isn’t supported yet, it's on the roadmap along with pipeline integration for auto-approvals, rejections, or manual review workflows.

Looking Ahead (SAFE HARBOR)

The team is working on:

  • Bringing App Readiness directly into Studio so developers see expectations early

  • Expanding App Summary into features like auto-generated release notes

  • Exploring how AI can (and can’t) assist with governance
