Technical FAQs

What are the usage limits?

For Personal Developer Instances (PDI), there is a limit of 10 prompts per instance per month. For customer instances that acquire Build Agent from the ServiceNow Store, there is a limit of 25 prompts per instance per month. For instances that are licensed for Now Assist for Creator, limits are based on your license.

When are usage limits reset?

PDI usage limits for Build Agent prompts reset every 30 days starting from the day on which the limit is set.

What if I run out of usage or used all my prompts before this challenge?

The limit is per instance, so you can elect to release your current PDI and request a new one, which will reset the usage count. Remember to back up any important work on your instance before you release it.

How long can each prompt be?

Very long. Feel free to be as simple or verbose as you want in each prompt. You can copy and paste large console logs, lengthy Product Requirement Documentation, or even huge error messages.

What else does Build Agent handle besides writing the code?

  • Compiling and validating source files
  • Testing of its own files
  • Pushing builds into the instance

How does Build Agent differ from AI Agents or Agentic AI?

While both names share “Agent,” Build Agent focuses on dev automation, whereas AI Agent (Agentic AI) focuses on task automation within workflows. Build Agent is an AI Agent.

What are the limitations of Build Agent?

Generally speaking, Build Agent is currently limited to the following abilities:

  • ServiceNow Fluent via the ServiceNow SDK
  • React based web components for user interfaces

To see what ServiceNow metadata that Build Agent is able to create and edit on your behalf (like business rules, client scripts, tables, etc.), check out the documentation for Fluent here:

https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bundle/zurich-application-development/page/build/servicenow-sdk/conc...

That means Build Agent’s scope is currently explicit. If it is not part of the Fluent SDK, then it cannot build it. But that also means that the capabilities of Build Agent are constantly growing as more and more metadata types are being added to the Fluent framework.

What that will look like as you build your applications: Build Agent will elect to write scripted code instead of building a Flow Designer action or flow. Or another example: telling Build Agent to build something that it doesn’t have access to and forcing it to move forward despite this might cause it to build it a different way or simulate that it built it.

Always remember that Build Agent is utilizing generative AI and can hallucinate.

Where can I learn more about Build Agent and how to acquire it for my company?

Read more about the product of Build Agent and Enterprise Vibe Coding at https://www.servicenow.com/products/vibe-coding.html#faq, including questions regarding governance and how Build Agent relates to App Engine.

Exploring the Build Agent: From Skepticism to a Fully Working Application

As part of the #BuildWithBuildAgent challenge, I decided to experiment with the Build Agent feature. I initially approached it with skepticism — but the experience completely changed my mind. The tool is far more capable than I expected.

To test it properly, I used a real scenario based on actual pain points from a Brazilian dentistry school. With only a handful of prompts, the Agent generated a complete application called School of Dentistry Care Center, aimed at simplifying how students, professors, and scheduling staff manage patients and course activities.

What the application needed to support

The application included a surprisingly complex set of requirements:

  • Maintain a catalog of dentistry courses such as Orthodontics I, Prosthodontics I, Periodontics, and Pediatric Dentistry.

  • Handle multiple course instances per semester, each assigned to at least one professor.

  • Allow scheduling agents to manage courses, professors, and patient records.

  • Let professors request triage sessions and specify how many patients their classes required.

  • Enable students to self-register once and later choose their courses each semester.

  • Allow students to claim assigned patients and schedule appointments throughout the semester.

  • Support adding notes, exams, and records for each patient visit.

  • Enable professors to review and add notes/exams for their students’ patients.

  • Provide patients with satisfaction surveys and the ability to submit complaints at the end of each course.

  • Allow patients to download a complete or course-specific history in PDF format.

  • Maintain a centralized waiting list following a FIFO order.

  • Allow scheduling agents to assign, schedule, and reschedule patients efficiently.

What the Build Agent created

In about 20 minutes and using only 7 prompts, the Build Agent produced:

  • 9 core tables and forms

  • All required table relationships

  • 5 user roles

  • 2 business rules

  • 1 UI page

  • 1 workspace

  • Sample data for the newly created tables

It also generated a comprehensive log describing every component created and any assumptions made throughout the build.

One of the most impressive features: before each deployment, the Agent automatically runs diagnostics and attempts repairs. This drastically reduces wasted prompts and time spent fixing minor configuration issues.

🚀 #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge – My Journey with ServiceNow Build Agent

Happy to participate in the BuildWithAgentServiceNow challenge and built an innovative HRSD-based application called Employee Well-being Tracker using the ServiceNow Build Agent. This app is designed to help organizations proactively monitor and improve employee well-being through automation and AI-driven insights.

The journey started with a simple natural language prompt:
"Create an application called 'Employee Well-being Tracker' that integrates with HR Service Delivery (HRSD). The app should send periodic well-being surveys to employees, collect responses, analyze sentiment, and automatically create HR cases for employees who report concerns or low well-being scores. Include dashboards for HR managers to monitor trends and escalations."

From there, Build Agent made it incredibly easy to add powerful features using conversational prompts:
Automated monthly well-being surveys
Sentiment analysis on responses to categorize Positive, Neutral, or Negative
Auto-creation of HR cases for low well-being scores
Dashboards for HR managers to track trends and escalations
Confidentiality controls for sensitive data

I even added enhancements like gamification (sending positive reinforcement messages) and considered integrations with Microsoft Teams for survey notifications.

What impressed me most was how Build Agent transformed natural language into functional components, reducing development time and enabling creativity without deep coding. This experience reinforced how AI-driven development can accelerate innovation in HR processes and improve employee engagement.

If you’re exploring ServiceNow and Build Agent, I highly recommend trying this challenge. It’s a great way to learn, experiment, and share your ideas with the community.

Hello Community,
I completed the #BuildWithBuildAgent challenge recently and built a Conference Room Booking Application using the new ServiceNow IDE — and the experience was incredible.

My use case focused on streamlining how organizations manage their meeting rooms and daily scheduling. Using just a few clear prompts, Build Agent generated the entire foundation of the application, including tables, booking logic, workspace pages, dashboards, and validations.

Some of the key capabilities I implemented include:
• A smart workspace dashboard with real-time KPIs on bookings, active meetings, room availability, and utilization
• Room management features to handle capacity, facilities, availability, and maintenance status
• A complete booking lifecycle with conflict detection, automated state transitions, and clear scheduling visibility
• A clean “Today’s Schedule” view and a user-friendly room availability layout

What I really liked was how Build Agent intelligently aligned UI components, auto-generated business rules, and refined the application structure with minimal guidance. It felt like collaborating with a co-developer who understands the context and translates natural language into functional logic.

This challenge was a great way to understand the power of AI-assisted development on the Now Platform, and I’m excited to keep building more with it!

I wanted to explore the power of Build Agents in ServiceNow and utilized the opportunity to participate in #BuildWithBuildAgent challenge. Here are the details of the application I have built using Build Agent. "SS Travel Desk" is the application which is used to maintain travel requests of employees of an organization. This application is built using ServiceNow Build Agent in Zurich version.

Glimpse of the application:
The application is providing an interface to the employees of an organization to raise their travel requests, which will undergo an approval process. The app provides an option to opt for Accommodation and Cab facilities as well while creating the request. Application provides an aesthetic homepage for the admins to quickly access the requests and work on further actions.

Just with 2 prompts, the Build Agent created this application within minutes.
1. App is providing very detailed form to create a request which includes details of their travel information. It is providing the field level validations as well. For example, if user enters departure date later than return date, form submission will not be done and user will be shown a relevant error message
2. Once the request is created, it goes to the approval based on the approver selected on the form.
3. With very simple prompt to create homepage(Travel desk dashboard) for the travel desk admin, homepage was created with multiple tiles which are useful to the admin/manager to quickly access and take action on the request. Approvers can take action on the requests directly from the homepage using the Accept or Reject buttons available on relevant tiles. Quick actions, Pending items are the highlights of the homepage
4. App has a provision to send reminder email to the travelers a day before their actual travel date.

Working with the Build agent is really enjoyable as the response from the agent is very informative and feels like discussing with someone in person. During the application creation, have seen some errors and could resolve with right prompting to the agent. Some issues like build failure are auto resolved by the agent itself, and parallelly its providing information on sidebar what exactly caused the issue. Agent is providing the links to different pages along with documentation on how to use the application in very informative way.

Last but not the least , the prompt that has given life to my idea.

"Create an application that scans Workspaces and displays the health/status of all components within the selected workspace. The app should provides a listing of all available Workspaces in the instance. When a Workspace is selected, the app should generate a detailed status report of every component, including whether it is active, broken, unused, or has missing bindings."

I’m really excited to share that I’ve created a fully responsive, professional "Stock Market Tracker" Application — and the wild part is that it was built within minutes using the ServiceNow hashtag#BuildWithBuildAgent .

The Build Agent made the whole process unbelievably smooth, fast, and efficient. Converting a detailed set of requirements into a complete, production-ready system felt almost effortless with this powerful AI capability.

I have built this application where users can easily search for any stock and view detailed information about its performance. The app allows users to track share prices in real time and also includes options to buy or sell shares directly within the interface. If a user wants to save a particular stock for quick access later, they can add it to their watchlist or remove it anytime, along with an optional personal note. Additionally, the application keeps a search history so users can quickly revisit the stocks they have previously looked up.

1) Stock Search

   * Users can search for any stock by entering its symbol or name.

   * Displays key details like price, change percentage, highs, lows, and more.

2) Real-Time Stock Tracking

   * Shows up-to-date share price movements.

   * Helps users monitor the performance of stocks quickly.

3) Buy/Sell Functionality

   * Provides simulated buy and sell options for better understanding of trading flow.

   * Users can practice or test their trading strategies.

4) Watchlist Management

   * Users can add any stock to their watchlist for quick reference.

   * They can also remove a stock anytime.

   * Option to add a personal note for each saved stock.

5) Search History

   * Automatically records previously searched stocks.

   * Helps users easily revisit past search results without retyping.

All of this was created using just one natural-language prompt — no scripting, no studio setup!
This shows how quickly we can develop enterprise-grade apps with ServiceNow by simply describing the business requirement.

🌿 Completed the #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge — Introducing HealthMate!

Hello everyone,
I’m excited to share that I’ve successfully completed the #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge! Big thanks to @Earl Duque  for the details and inspiration behind this initiative.

I was genuinely amazed by how quickly the Build Agent brought my idea to life. A simple natural-language prompt, and within minutes, a complete application was ready — tables, forms, logic, dashboards, everything. The screenshots below show how powerful and intuitive this feature truly is.

Sahil_Panghal_0-1763565262191.png LinkedIn Post: Check it out here:-

🧘‍♂️ Meet HealthMate

I built HealthMate, a wellness app that helps individuals track daily habits and understand their overall well-being. We manage SLAs at work every day, yet rarely manage one for ourselves — and that idea sparked HealthMate.

The app lets users log sleep, hydration, mood, stress level, and steps. It then generates a Daily Wellness Score, sends small AI-driven reminders, and provides dynamic dashboards to understand weekly and monthly patterns. The goal is simple: make wellness measurable, visible, and easy to act on. 🌿💚

💬 The Prompt I Used

“Build a wellness and habit-tracking app called 'HealthMate' that allows users to log sleep, hydration, stress, mood, and steps. Create tables, forms, logic for a daily wellness score, and dashboards for weekly/monthly insights. Add simple AI-based reminders like drinking water or taking breaks. Use Performance Analytics for trend visualization and create a clean user experience.”

🎯 Key Benefits

Daily wellness tracking
📊Smart wellness scoring
📈Dynamic Dashboards
🤖AI-driven reminders
🤝Team well-being insights
📋👀Easy habit visibility
