Technical FAQs

What are the usage limits?

For Personal Developer Instances (PDI), there is a limit of 10 prompts per instance per month. For customer instances that acquire Build Agent from the ServiceNow Store, there is a limit of 25 prompts per instance per month. For instances that are licensed for Now Assist for Creator, limits are based on your license.

When are usage limits reset?

PDI usage limits for Build Agent prompts reset every 30 days starting from the day on which the limit is set.

What if I run out of usage or used all my prompts before this challenge?

The limit is per instance, so you can elect to release your current PDI and request a new one, which will reset the usage count. Remember to back up any important work on your instance before you release it.

How long can each prompt be?

Very long. Feel free to be as simple or verbose as you want in each prompt. You can copy and paste large console logs, lengthy Product Requirement Documentation, or even huge error messages.

What else does Build Agent handle besides writing the code?

  • Compiling and validating source files
  • Testing of its own files
  • Pushing builds into the instance

How does Build Agent differ from AI Agents or Agentic AI?

While both names share “Agent,” Build Agent focuses on dev automation, whereas AI Agent (Agentic AI) focuses on task automation within workflows. Build Agent is an AI Agent.

What are the limitations of Build Agent?

Generally speaking, Build Agent is currently limited to the following abilities:

  • ServiceNow Fluent via the ServiceNow SDK
  • React based web components for user interfaces

To see what ServiceNow metadata that Build Agent is able to create and edit on your behalf (like business rules, client scripts, tables, etc.), check out the documentation for Fluent here:

https://www.servicenow.com/docs/bundle/zurich-application-development/page/build/servicenow-sdk/conc...

That means Build Agent’s scope is currently explicit. If it is not part of the Fluent SDK, then it cannot build it. But that also means that the capabilities of Build Agent are constantly growing as more and more metadata types are being added to the Fluent framework.

What that will look like as you build your applications: Build Agent will elect to write scripted code instead of building a Flow Designer action or flow. Or another example: telling Build Agent to build something that it doesn’t have access to and forcing it to move forward despite this might cause it to build it a different way or simulate that it built it.

Always remember that Build Agent is utilizing generative AI and can hallucinate.

Where can I learn more about Build Agent and how to acquire it for my company?

Read more about the product of Build Agent and Enterprise Vibe Coding at https://www.servicenow.com/products/vibe-coding.html#faq, including questions regarding governance and how Build Agent relates to App Engine.

I’m participating in the #BuildWithBuildAgent challenge, and it has been a great opportunity to technically evaluate how AI accelerates application development on the Now Platform — not just in speed, but in how we approach architecture and solution design.

What impressed me most is how the Build Agent translates functional requirements into platform components automatically — creating data models, relationships, UI pages, and logic purely through prompt-driven workflows.

Instead of the traditional cycle (requirements → table design → UI → automation), the Build Agent generates a working baseline that can be iteratively refined through conversational instructions.

Technical aspects explored during the challenge:

🔹 Converting business use cases into precise, structured prompts
🔹 Reviewing how the AI generates database schema, access controls, and relations
🔹 Understanding UI component mapping inside Workspace pages
🔹 Iterating and optimizing logic without manually scripting
🔹 Evaluating scalability and extension points in AI-generated configurations

I’ve shared my detailed hands-on experience and prototype breakdown here for anyone interested 👇

I decided to join the #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge, which has been intriguing me for a while. ServiceNow has taken on the rising expectations surrounding the supposed exponential surge in productivity that is meant to arrive with the AI revolution unfolding before our eyes. For some it is a bubble, for others it is something that will drive business forward and solve many contemporary problems.

We now have the chance to use this seemingly futuristic technology that lets us build complete applications without knowing anything about databases, programming languages, or other technical aspects. The barrier to entry in software development has never been lower. All you need is your creativity and an idea written in a simple sentence, and you receive a fully functional application: an advanced user interface, database tables, demo data, security rules, and all the application logic. The whole thing takes around twenty minutes. It is difficult to believe.

Until now, you needed a development team and several sprints to deliver something of comparable complexity. Today you can write a prompt and have it all immediately. This is remarkable; ServiceNow really will make the world work better.

I was thinking about an example to try out this powerful AI Agent that ServiceNow has just made publicly available. I decided to go for something that is very close to the experience of many office workers, especially nowadays with the popularity of hot desks. We often change desks and work in different places, but we also go to meetings in various rooms, and sometimes we leave something behind and forget about it. It would be good, especially in large companies, to have some procedures in place to help owners recover their belongings—anyone who has ever lost their beloved mug knows that pain. So, as the ServiceNow motto goes: "Let's workflow it." Time for a single prompt that will create a complete application ready for use, with a visually pleasing interface.

Here is my prompt:

Generate a complete office lost-and-found ServiceNow application with demo data included. Key features:
User roles: employees and admins
Lost & found item submission with auto-matching
Item tracking with dynamic statuses
Search, filters, and notifications
Analytics dashboard with reports
Mobile-friendly, responsive design
Ready-to-run front-end, back-end, and database
Focus on usability, efficiency, and smart automation.

The application worked and looked great. I also found some demo data, so I could see everything in action right away. I tried reporting a lost phone through the app. The report was successfully registered, but something was off with the dashboard...

But after reporting the bug, I quickly received a fix that resolved the issue. See for yourselve. It’s like talking to a senior developer who knows the application perfectly and can deliver a fix in an instant.

This is a technology that’s going to make a huge impact. I can’t wait to continue building applications. Now, we practically have no limitations. We have a powerful AI-driven platform—we don’t have to worry about infrastructure or software. ServiceNow is a technology leader.

Thrilled to share my submission for the #BuildWithBuildAgent challenge! 🚀

I built an Employee Appreciation Wall application using ServiceNow’s Build Agent, crafted entirely through natural language prompts. No coding. No complex configurations. Just an idea and a working application in minutes.

🌟 What the App Does

The Employee Appreciation Wall enables employees to send meaningful appreciation notes to colleagues—promoting a culture of recognition and positivity at the workplace.

Key Highlights

Appreciation Submission Form – Sender, recipient, category, and message fields

Live Appreciation Wall – Modern, interactive portal view

Trend Dashboards – Top recipients, categories, monthly activity

Auto Notifications – Recipients get instant alerts

Clean & Modern UI – Designed automatically by Build Agent

🛠How I Built It

I provided one clear, detailed prompt to ServiceNow Build Agent describing the table, form, portal page, dashboards, and notifications.

Build Agent generated the entire scoped application—from UI pages to data model—within minutes.

Prompt I used

Create a scoped application called ‘Employee Appreciation Wall’. Include a form for users to submit appreciation messages with fields for sender, recipient, category, and message. Store entries in a backend table. Create a portal page showing a public Appreciation Wall with filters for category, sender, and recipient. Add a dashboard to show appreciation trends (top recipients, top categories). Enable notifications to the recipient when a new appreciation message is posted.

Build Agent automatically created:

  • The scoped app
  • Table for appreciation notes
  • Form layout
  • Portal page
  • Dashboard with prebuilt widgets
  • Notifications setup

All without manual development.

Using the Build Agent was a seamless experience—it turned my ideas into a working app faster than I expected. I provided clear instructions, and it handled everything from the data model to the UI and dashboards automatically. Making changes was as simple as adding a new prompt, and the agent instantly updated the application. It felt like having a smart developer partner who understands requirements immediately and delivers results in minutes.

This challenge was a great reminder of how quickly ideas can turn into real, functional apps with the power of AI + ServiceNow.

Excited to keep exploring what Build Agent can unlock! 🔥

For the #BuildWithBuildAgent challenge, I built an Employee Onboarding Tracker using ServiceNow’s Build Agent, a powerful no-code tool that turns ideas into working applications through natural language prompts. This solution is designed to automate and simplify the entire onboarding process for new employees, eliminating manual tracking and ensuring a smooth experience for HR, managers, and IT teams.

The application brings all onboarding activities into one centralized platform. HR teams can quickly create employee records by entering essential details such as name, department, start date, and work location. Once an employee is added, the system automatically generates a set of predefined tasks for different teams—HR, IT, Facilities, Managers, and Training. These tasks cover everything from setting up IT accounts and ordering equipment to scheduling welcome meetings and assigning mentors.

To keep everyone aligned, the app includes real-time dashboards that display onboarding progress for each employee and overall organizational status. Managers and HR can easily track task completion, identify delays, and ensure nothing falls through the cracks. Additionally, the application supports equipment request management, allowing IT and Facilities teams to handle laptop, access card, and software requests with built-in approval workflows.

Security and access control are also integrated. Role-based permissions ensure that HR, managers, IT teams, and employees have the right level of access to view or update tasks, maintaining data integrity and compliance.

The best part? This entire solution was built in minutes using natural language prompts—no coding required. ServiceNow’s Build Agent transformed my idea into a fully functional app with a modern user interface, automation, and enterprise-grade security. It’s a perfect example of how no-code tools can accelerate development and deliver impactful business solutions quickly.

🔥My #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge – Procurement & Inventory Automation Hub 🚀📦

I’m excited to share my official entry for this year’s #BuildWithBuildAgent Challenge! 🎉
Using ServiceNow’s AI-powered Build Agent, I created a Procurement & Inventory Automation Hub — a smart solution designed to simplify the entire purchasing lifecycle, from raising requests to tracking vendor performance. 💼

Prompt:
"Create a Procurement Hub to manage purchase requests, inventory stock levels, approvals, and vendor performance. Add tables for Inventory Items, Purchase Requests, Vendors, and Stock Transactions. Use Service Catalog for placing purchase requests, Flow Designer for routing approvals, and IntegrationHub to sync with external inventory systems. Add dashboards for low-stock alerts, vendor delivery performance, and monthly procurement trends."

🧩 🌐What I Built

Using natural language prompts, I designed a complete procurement workflow including:

🔹Inventory Items Table – tracks stock levels & item details
🔹Vendors Table – with performance ratings, delivery times & contact info
🔹Purchase Requests Table – supports cost, category & priority fields
🔹Stock Transactions Table – monitors incoming & outgoing inventory
🔹Service Catalog Experience – raise purchase requests in a clean, guided format
🔹Approval Flows in Flow Designer – auto-routes high-value requests
🔹Performance Analytics Dashboards – visibility into:

  • 📉Low-stock alerts

  • 🚚Vendor delivery performance

  • 📊Monthly procurement trends

  • 📦Pending vs completed requests

🤖How Build Agent Helped

Build Agent handled so much of the heavy lifting:

Auto-created tables, fields, relationships
Generated approval flows
Built UI components
Suggested next steps
Added sample data
Even fixed errors using vibe coding prompts!

With just a few prompts, I had a fully functional app scaffolded — a huge boost in productivity and creativity. 🚀

🎯💡Why This Project Matters

Organizations often struggle with:

  • Stock shortages

  • Vendor delays

  • Manual approval bottlenecks

  • Poor visibility into procurement performance

This app provides a centralized, automated solution that keeps procurement efficient, transparent, and measurable. 📈🔍

The way you integrated artisan onboarding, quality checks, NGO training, and end-to-end order management really highlights Build Agent’s capabilities in handling complex workflows with minimal prompts.
