1. Multi Source reports with standard reporting is possible!
Do you want to show 2 different bar charts on the same graph?
You don't need to reach for PA yet for this, you can achieve it in the standard reports we're all familiar with from our system admin training (Ok that was a while back, so lets do a quick refresher).
First create your report, then you'll wonder where the multi-source button is? Well first save it, and in the top right it should appear:
Did you miss it? It’s this little icon here
Bonus prize: Redirect to a URL when the report is clicked:
This is common request of 'When I click the report I want to be taken to X'.
(See that Chain icon below?) Click that and you can put in a URL to redirect the user when they click on the report data! Awesome!
2. Grouping data, to identify how many unique data sets there are.
E.g. I want a counter on my dashboard, showing how many groups are assigned incidents.
No worries, don't forget our trusty friend COUNT DISTINCT
In this PDI I have 40 incidents, but these 40 are assigned to only 5 groups, shown below, simples!
Note: the type of report here is 'Single score'
You can also achieve a similar outcome if your stakeholder wants listed data too, simply group by:
Summary
So the standard sys_reports are still useful and although we have Platform analytics and Performance Analytics, its likely you may still be supporting older dashboards (and reports) for your users for some time.
