add new choice under category on Demand

Client wanted to add another choice on "Category" field on Demands, however I am unsure if adding an option here would cause downstream issues. Current values are Strategic and Operational. Will adding another option cause any issues or it is okay to add another option?

Yes, you can safely add a new choice (e.g., "Tactical") to a choice field like Category. This is done via:

  • System Definition → Choice Lists
  • Or directly from the form via Configure Dictionary > Choices

Creating a new category does not affect existing functionality. However, if there are configurations based on category values, such as triggering notifications, these need to be updated accordingly.

Adding a new choice isn’t an issue, unless the existing choice has already been used in a flow or OOTB reports. In your case, you need to check if the existing types are being used in any flow. If they are, you’ll need to update the flow, reports, or integrations to take advantage of the new value. This will be a significant amount of work and will require thorough testing as well. If there is no flow or logic tied to the existing choice, then I think you can simply add a new choice and use it.
