Beginner with 2 months of ServiceNow experience — How should I start learning Integration?

Hi everyone,

I’m a fresher and I’ve been learning ServiceNow development for about 2 months now. So far, I’ve covered the basics like Client Scripts, UI Policies, Data Policies, Business Rules, GlideRecord, and some server-side scripting.

I’m now planning to start learning ServiceNow Integration, but I’m a little confused about where to begin. There are so many topics like REST APIs, REST Messages, Scripted REST APIs, authentication, IntegrationHub, Flow Designer, Import Sets, and MID Server.

For someone who is still a beginner, what would be the best and easiest way to learn integrations step by step?

Would it be better to start with:

  1. REST API basics

  2. Outbound REST Messages

  3. Scripted REST APIs

  4. Authentication

  5. ServiceNow-to-ServiceNow integration

  6. IntegrationHub

  7. MID Server

Also, if possible, could you suggest a simple real-world integration project that I can build as a beginner to understand the concepts practically?

I’m mainly looking for a beginner-friendly roadmap so I know what to learn first and what topics I can leave for later.

Any advice or learning resources would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

ahoy @PrajwalBR,

welcome to the ServiceNow universe! If you are a fresher with limited knowledge, could oyu possibly share your motivation to directly learn integrations? They are probably the most complex capabilities and might be overwhelming to skip the foudnations and go to the most difficult one.

If you are not aware with the basic platform administration, maybe starting with the platform configurations could be better in your situation and once knowing more about it then it might be easier for you to learn the difficult parts. What do you say?

Perhaps instead of focusing directly on integrations, you might want to select a role to achieve (admin, analyst, etc) and enrol to these training materials pre-defined by ServiceNow as paths and journeys, you can combine between then and do it in your own pace.
