Can i add additional assigned to in record?

Hi all, 
i have a custom application, when new record created, system auto populate "assigned to" basing on the "assignment" rules.

in the same record, there is another field "assigned to-backup", can input multiple user name and have the same access control as "assigned to".

 is that possible that i add one more "assigned to-backup" field in assignment rule and auto fill in the "assigned to-backup"?

since it's a custom application it's upto you and the business to decide how it should get populated and who should edit, read that new field
