Career Growth in Servicenow

I'm a ServiceNow developer focused on custom app development and PS implementations (client scripts, business rules, Flow Designer, UI Builder, Service Portal) rather than core ITSM/CMDB. As orgs move from unused AI entitlements to production agentic AI, where does a custom-app developer plug into that journey — are you seeing FDE engagements pull in developers like me to build agent tools/actions on top of existing custom apps, or is that work handled separately from custom app dev? And from a skills standpoint, what's the fastest path to being useful on an agentic AI deployment.

Ive done a bit of training through servicenow university, in my opinion the AI Application Developer Path seems to have a lot of promising training not just for AI development but for a lot of hands on stuff you will be doing generally in the platform as well

Hi

My understanding is that you are looking for an AI learning path, but I'm not completely sure whether you are looking for a specific course or general guidance.

To start with AI, I would recommend first understanding what AI is and its use cases. Before focusing on implementation or deployment, it is important to understand:

  • What value AI can bring.

  • Which business problems AI can solve.

  • How AI fits into your organisation.

  • Which use cases are suitable for AI adoption.

The deployment part comes later. The first step is understanding AI concepts, identifying relevant use cases, and understanding how AI can support your business.

ServiceNow also provides resources on its Now Create website and ServiceNow learning platform, where you can find documentation and learning content related to Agentic AI, AI capabilities, and related topics.

Going through these materials should give you a good starting point and help you build an understanding of where to begin.

If you can share more details about the exact area you want to learn (for example, ServiceNow AI, Agentic AI, AI development, or AI for business use cases), the community can provide more specific guidance.

Hello @Maulik176 ,

You're in a good position. Most Agentic AI implementations don't replace custom application development—they build on top of it. Agents need tools and actions to perform work, and those tools are often existing custom applications, Flow Designer flows, Script Includes, REST APIs, and UI Builder experiences. Developers with experience in those areas are increasingly involved in exposing business capabilities that AI agents can invoke.

You can refer this course to understand what exactly need for agentic ai :

Hello @Maulik176 ,

Basically agent-building work is not separate from custom app dev, it's actually converging into it. ServiceNow's own messaging at Knowledge 2026 is that when developers build custom applications, in-app AI agents now get embedded into app workflows by default, answering questions, surfacing insights, and taking action within the context of the application.

So not FDE, but agent tool building on top of custom apps is becoming a standard part of custom app dev itself, especially now that Build Agent auto-embeds agents into new custom apps.
