Compare the number of closed vs created incidents per month

Is it possible to see in a single report whether we have been closing more tickets than opening on a monthly basis over the last 12 months? We would like to compare the number of tickets that are opened in a single month vs the number of tickets that are closed in that same month for the last 12 months. We would like to have this report to see whether we would need to hire more people to deal with the tickets.

You mean, monthly reports? Then we would still have 12 different reports, instead of just one

Yes..it can be done using appropriate filter condition and scheduled to run as per your requirement

Wonder if this question got answered successfully?  Am still trying to figure out how to get this simple open vs closed report on a dashboard, but can't find an option for it

This original question was never answered.  All the answers seemed to ignore the requestors use case of creating "one" bar chart report, not 12 separate reports.  This is a simple task, and I don't understand why ServiceNow does not allow monthly comparisons. All I want to do is have a chart that shows the last 12 months, and in each month, I see the number of incidents that were open, and the number of incidents that were resolved/closed.  I can either stack them or not, but I want them all in one chart.  I know with Performance Analytics premium, I can add more than one dataset to a report, but it does not support the trend chart type, which is the only chart type I can find that allows me to Configure Trend by and per settings in the Configure tab.  I am on Orlando version.  This simple chart is becoming quite complex and looks like ServiceNow can't do it.  😞  Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried using data sets. You can set one for open and one for closed. I used the column report and Trend by created by month. In my sample I used last 12 months. On the Second data set I used Trend by closed.
