How do I determine an application's product?

I am starting with a new team and was told I would be working with the IRM (Integrated Risk Management) team.

So I googled it and landed on the IRM Product page.

More googling took me to this documentation page. I am going to assume that the "Risk Management" application is the same as "Integrated Risk Management".

If this is all the information you were provided, how would you figure out which ServiceNow Application "contains" the IRM Product?

Is there a better/more concrete way to determine which Product I would select from this Product Directory documetation page instead of having to google & cross my fingers?

IRM is under GRC in docs so maybe GRC is the product name you are looking for. I'm pretty sure it was stated at some point that GRC as a name will be faded away. GRC is not a top level category in the capability map but IRM and TPRM are which I think supports that statement.

However not sure why you need the product name? I'm hope your team will introduce you to the capabilities you need to learn. I'm not familiar with GRC but I can imagine there are many SKUs anyway so your mileage will vary

This is a bit of an over- simplification, but GRC And IRM are pretty much the same.

You really can't predict/preempt too much without getting it direct from your new team.

For example, TPRM and BCM may or may not be included in the apps you'll cover - it totally depends on your company, how their teams are structured, etc.

My advice: don't stress. Familiarise yourself with core GRC principles, etc., until you know more.

Maybe go through the IRM Fundamentals training on Now University?

Hi @KarrieD !!

Understanding which application contains IRM

  • Integrated Risk Management (IRM) is a product suite, not a single application.

  • The Risk Management application is one of the core applications that belongs to the IRM product.

  • Other applications under IRM include Policy and Compliance, Audit Management, Vendor Risk Management, and Business Continuity Management.

How to identify the correct product without guessing

  • Check ServiceNow documentation that lists Integrated Risk Management as a product and shows the applications included under it.

  • In a ServiceNow instance, use the Application Navigator and search for Risk Management or Policy and Compliance — these applications fall under IRM.

  • Navigate to System Applications → All Applications and verify the installed applications; Risk Management will appear as part of IRM.

  • In the Product Directory, always select Integrated Risk Management (IRM) as the product, then reference the specific application you are working on.

Key takeaway

  • IRM = Product / Suite

  • Risk Management = Application within IRM
