How do you make a field read only except for admins

How do you make a field "Read Only" for all but Admins.   I made it read only but then it was read only for everyone including Admins.

Im using Geneva and I an not seeing where I add a new ACL - there is no new button

Try the below steps.You have to elevate your roles.

1.Elevate Roles

2.Check security admin

Now check the ACL list ,you will get 'New' option.

I have never created an ACL so I needs guidance.   I have a field "VIP" on my user administration I need it to be read only to everyone but admins.   Can you assist me with how to create the ACL

Elevate to security admin.  

Go to your field.   Right-click on it.   Choose Configure Security:

Make the operation to secure write, place admin in the selected, and boom!   ACL created.   Click OK, see the save complete message in the bottom left, then exit the window.
