We are trying to understand how the article expiring process and its extension is working in OOB. We have noticed that in Paris, OOB notification is available to trigger notification to article author if the article in going to expire in one month. But could not see any option for the user to update the valid to date to future date.
Republish button enabled after the article is retired. How the user will update the valid to date if this field is read only. Please help if anyone has found any solution for this in OOB or do we have to customize.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
I think you have to go to article and update it manually, there is OOB thing to handle it as per my knowledge.

To extend an article's valid to date and prevent it from retiring, simply check it out and republish it. A new version of the article is created when you check it out for revision. At that time, the Valid To date on the revision is automatically recalculated based on the current date and the knowledge base's Article Validity field, just like it does when you first created the article.
So in summary, when you make a new version of an article, the Valid To date is automatically recalculated and extended into the future. Keep in mind that you still have to go through whatever publishing workflow has been defined for the knowledge base.
