how to use Document Management lists

The “Document Management lists” section states, “Then when you reference this list to a target record, all the template documents under the list are created and linked to the target record.” How can I verify this?

Based on what I read in the documentation, I understood that adding a reference field to the list and referencing any list record would automatically create a document record that was not linked to a version record.
However, no document records were created.

 

Do I need to prepare a script using the API for the process of automatically creating records?
I want to add a reference field to the list in the document table and use the list table as a document folder, so if it is automatically created by OOTB, I would like to deactivate that function.
