We have a requirement to recategorize a Computer CI to the child class Personal Computer. Currently, the data is coming from Intune and landing in the Computer table out of the box.
The client wants, based on some filter like[Chassis Type, Operating system, etc.], one CI can be marked PC.
According to ServiceNow, reclassification can be done by changing the class value. However, what I have found is that recategorizing (or reclassifying) a CI is generally not considered a best practice, especially if done manually or frequently, as it can lead to data loss, broken relationships, and higher maintenance overhead.
I would like a second opinion on the reclassification of a CI to another class.
What is the best practice for this?
Has anyone come across a similar requirement before?

Best practice is to ensure that CIs are created in the correct class. If that isn't the case, reclassification is the way to go. The upside is that Personal Computer has the exact same fields as Computer (it's inheriting everything), so that way of reclassifying is low in risk.
