Reclaimation email - Concern

Hi

Wondering why I just got a reclaimation email notice saying my PDI will be reclaimed 15th July.

Been logged into my PDI and actively developing and creating all day today, and yesterday and the day before that.

I am worried this could turn out to be a ***show. If I am getting this mail can I ask if others received and have been actively logged in e.g last few day sand would not meet criteria of reclaimation.

Please ServiceNow for sure great idea, but I implore you to get it done with correct dilligence.

Thanks and happy developing.

Frank

Hi @fjvm9

Many user reported the same that even after they were using it actively still it has been reclaimed.

Do not worry . Request for new instance.

FYI ->Keeping PDIs Available for Active Builders: Upcoming PDI Reclamation Changes

As per above article ,

reclaiming PDIs that meet both of these conditions:

  • 90 days or older (based on when they were provisioned)
  • Haven't had a PDI login in the last 10 days

There is no way to retain PDI after getting Reclaim notification. Also there is no support available for PDI.

Please check this Personal Developer Instance (PDI) Guide

Where it is written-

"When a PDI is reclaimed, the instance is unassigned from you, reset to its original state, and reassigned to another Developer Site user. Reclaiming instances allows ServiceNow to supply active developer site user with free instances."

Once it is reclaimed, only option is left i.e Request for New PDI instance.

Hi Frank, since your reclaim date is still ahead, the most important thing is to not count on the login saving it. I was active in my instance after getting the email too, logged in directly and working in it, and it was reclaimed anyway.

So before the 15th: export everything you care about now, do not wait to see if it survives. If it does get reclaimed, the good news from my side is that requesting a new instance was immediate, and importing my update set put me right back where I was. Whatever method you use, just make sure the backup exists before the date. If it helps, I put a free tool that automates it on Share: https://developer.servicenow.com/connect.do#!/share/contents/3108109_instance_backup

One more thing you could try, no guarantees: upgrading your PDI to a newer release. An upgrade rebuilds the instance state, so it may take it off the reclaim list in a way a plain login does not.

Hi All,

Many thanks and for taking the time to reply to my post it is much appreciated.

I really wanted to see if I was not the only one who received the reclaimation email while actively using my PDI.

I fully understand the need for  ServiceNow ensuring PDI's are readily available to those wishing to use them,I have been in the boat of having to wait for a PDI to become available for use, so optimizing the PDI infrastructure makes sense to me.

Again thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences.

Thanks and happy developing.......
