Use of "Order Received" date in hardware asset table

Hi All,

I would like to know the use of "Order Received" (delivery_date) field in the alm_hardware table. I couldn't find any business rules or anything written to populate this field in the hardware asset table. 

I want to use a date field in the asset table for one of the requirements to calculate warranty and I 'thought if I could use this field as the base date field. But before that I would like to confirm if this field is populated or used from anywhere or in future will it be a problem as it is an OOB?

OR

Creating a new custom field for our purpose is the good option to go with.

I'm also curious as to why the order received date on the hardware asset record is not populated when the purchase order is received. This is a very useful field when doing other calculations or doing research. This is now the Washington release. Please advise.
