What happens during the Upgrade downtime

Hi All,

We are planning to Upgrade our Production Instance from Geneva Patch11 to Jakartha Patch3a. Non production Instance Upgrade took almost 2 hours. So during the upgrade Downtime will the End users be able to login into or can perform any changes on the Instance. My customers serves 24*7 and therefore don't want around 2 hrs of downtime. The modules mostly used were REST Api & Incident. Want to know what exactly happens during the downtime.

Hello Luizlucena,

Under normal circumstances, there should not be any actual downtime for a customer during an upgrade.  At most a user will be logged out, and they will just need to log in again. So from the user's standpoint, they should not notice any actual downtime.

Thanks,

Pradeep Sharma

if this information is not part of the Upgrade check list or documentation, it should be! Thanks Pradeep!

Hello Pradeep,

Need some clarification!

I understand that there wont be any downtime for users to log in to system, That is good!

During Upgrade, If user create any tickets, will ServiceNow sends notifications regarding ticket to users or not?

Thanks,

Rasith.

Notifications will wait until the upgrade is complete.

Hello Nitesh,

Normal Notifications does worked during Upgrade. Last week we did upgraded to London. All the notifications based on tickets did move to Sent Box.

Scheduled jobs does not work if the upgrade safe is false. So Scheduled Email of Report type does not work.

Thanks,

Rasith
