Hardware Asset Management vs Enterprise Asset Management?

We had SAM and HAM. I have worked in HAM pro and SAM Pro. I have not used EAM.

In one of the EAM Infographics, I see that EAM offers workflows for Asset refresh, stock orders,  disposal orders etc. we have all of these in HAM.

What exactly is EAM? Why was it introduced separately when we had HAM and SAM. How its different from HAM?

When should we use EAM over HAM?

Thanks in advance!

HAM (Hardware Asset Management) and SAM (Software Asset Management) focus on managing hardware and software assets separately.

EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) is a bigger, more complete system. It covers everything HAM and SAM do, plus more — like managing workflows for asset refresh, stock orders, disposal, maintenance schedules, and more across the whole company.

Think of EAM as a full toolbox for managing all kinds of assets and processes in one place, not just hardware or software.

EAM was introduced because companies needed a way to handle everything related to their assets in a more connected and efficient way — not just hardware or software separately.

You’d use EAM when you want to manage not only assets but also maintenance, inventory, procurement, and workflows all together — especially if your company has many different types of assets or complex processes.

For example, Fogwing EAM  is a great solution that helps businesses manage all their assets and workflows smoothly in one system. It’s used across industries in the US, UK, Europe, India, Australia, and the Middle East, and it makes managing everything from asset refresh to disposal really easy.

HAM is great if you only want to focus on hardware assets, but if you want a more complete, company-wide asset management solution, EAM like Fogwing is definitely the way to go.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you want me to explain anything else.

Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) is a system for managing all types of assets—IT and non-IT—including equipment, vehicles, tools, buildings, and more. It goes beyond HAM (Hardware Asset Management) and SAM (Software Asset Management) by including maintenance, operations, and asset performance.

When to use EAM:

Use EAM when you're managing physical operations, need maintenance workflows, or track non-IT assets like vehicles, tools, or machines.

Tools like Fogwing EAM (used in the US, UK, Europe, Middle East, Australia, and India) support both IT and field assets with maintenance, stock orders, disposal, and lifecycle control — making it ideal for growing enterprises.
