For this post, let's take a more in depth look at the Business Portal which looks like the best option to use as a starting point for a public portal. To set this up, I installed the CSM plugin in a brand new instance. The portal itself is inactive when installed, so I toggled that to activate it. From there, I had to do some set up involving the cloning of pages to make them public and supporting them with Page Route Maps.

The primary menu for Business Portal is set up using the Portal Mega Menu widget, which was already public. Any of the menu items included in the menus were added to the instance and were set to be hidden to unauthenticated users for the most part.

The logged in user gets a search bar that's not available to public users. Its looks like an embedded widget so you would need to go down that path to add it if it's not public already.

The Taxonomy associated with the portal is just called Business Portal. I added a Record Producer and a couple sample articles to it to get them to show up in the Browse topic and Most trending articles widgets.

Either click from the Browse Topics widget takes you to a portal taxonomy page that has a widget that provides a filtered view of the items per taxonomy. All of this tied back to what I added as Connected Content.

Finally, there is a FAQs button on the main banner menu that goes to a different page that includes a widget that displays only knowledge articles grouped by Knowledge Category rather than a tie in to Taxonomy.
