Add any new custom Sort by options in the Topic Content Widget

Hi all, 

Is it possible to add or update the Topic Content widget with any new Sort by options? (for example - to have a custom sort by option for sorting the KB articles with the latest updated article having the recently changed ones). Other than the default Sort by options such as Popularity and Alphabetical(A-Z) in the topic content widget, I have to add a new option like the way that I mentioned in the earlier point. Also, Is there is a module or in any tables like where the two default sort by options are stored or where it can be founded in the back end? It would be really helpful and useful for me if this can be done or achieved in any ways.

Taking a look at the Topic Content widget itself in my OOB PDI (Utah)

• Line 23-29 has the list of sort options
• Line 136-139 is the sort handling
  • This led to the TopicServiceUtilSNC script include, use the TopicServiceUtil one to override or add methods
    • Unfortunately, I hit a dead end here since Line 97 references a script I cannot access which is used on line 103
