Catalog Item that displays Core_Country table values

I've looked at a few articles but have been unable to get the values of the core_country table to be visible on a catalog item variable. I can see the values in the table (231) which is an out of the box table from 2014 but keep getting no matches found. I've tried a reference type, list collector, lookup select box but no luck

Hi Lynch - can you shoot a screenshot the ACL you created? Does it allow authenticated and unauth'd users view the countries?
