  1. Service Portal:

    • Purpose: Service Portal is a customizable self-service portal that allows organizations to create web-based interfaces for their employees, customers, and other stakeholders. It is primarily designed for external and internal users to access various services, not just for employees.

    • Customization: Service Portal is highly customizable, allowing organizations to design and build user-friendly, branded interfaces. It provides a low-code/no-code environment for creating custom widgets and pages tailored to specific service offerings.

    • Use Cases: Service Portal can be used to provide a wide range of services beyond just IT service requests. It's suitable for creating portals that offer HR services, facilities management, legal requests, and more. It can be customized to suit the needs of different departments and teams.

    • User Types: Service Portal caters to both employees and external users, depending on the portal's configuration. It is not limited to employee interactions and can serve customers, partners, and other stakeholders.

    • Functionality: Service Portal can integrate with various ServiceNow modules and provide a holistic self-service experience, including incident management, service catalog, knowledge base, and more.

  2. Employee Center:

    • Purpose: Employee Center is a specialized portal designed specifically for employees within an organization. Its primary focus is on providing a centralized platform for employees to access HR-related services and information.

    • Pre-built Content: Employee Center typically comes with pre-built content and templates tailored for HR-related processes, such as benefits enrollment, time-off requests, and employee directory searches.

    • HR-Centric: Employee Center is centered around HR service delivery, making it easier for employees to manage their HR-related tasks and access information like company policies and benefits.

    • User Types: Employee Center is designed exclusively for internal employees and is intended to improve their HR-related experiences.

    • Limited Customization: While some level of customization is possible, Employee Center is generally less flexible and customizable compared to Service Portal. It may be more focused on adhering to HR best practices and compliance.
