Limit Search results to populate results only for custom portal

We have multiple custom portal in our organisation. We're researching the Search functionality to only display results for one portal rather than global search. Today, when a user leverages the search function, they see all results from all portals. Is there a way to apply the search based on portals ???

If using AI Search, you can create a Search application with corresponding search index etc. 

I would simply create a Search application for each portal, and then configure them to only search through those portals.

However while you are here (In the Employee Center forum) it might be worth assessing why you have multiple portals, and not provide your users a simple unified experience with a single Employee Center
