We received an email saying the audit task for CTR0020246 has expired. Is it due to the state being closed complete?

This Notification is nothing but the OOTB notification "Notify assignee before due date" which gets triggered when an Event named  "sn_audit.due_date_approaching".

This event gets fired whenever "When due date is approaching".
