Assign a Asset to a Specific Location, But Not a Specific User

Hi Folks,

We have a unique use case, where some hardware assets are not going to be assigned to a specific user, but rather, a specific location. For instance a shared laboratory device, or a printer that resides in a shared cubicle. What is the best practice for assigning assets to a location (laboratory, cubicle, etc...), but not a specific user?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Jon Collins2

You can introduce a custom attribute like (Assigned to facility "checkbox" and Facility location "reference to location") to cater this requirement.

@Arpit Taneja, thank you. This is something we are considering; simply leaving "assigned_to" blank, setting assets to "in use", and using other field data to notate the shared asset's location and/or cubicle/office number.

Is there a formal best practice for shared asset management?

Hi Jon,

As per my understanding creating assigned to facility custom checkbox will help to report on facility assets.

Hi Jon,

What I mostly do in this use-case is advise on assigning such assets to a user that is responsible for the maintenance of these Assets/CI's. In that way, also in case of a ticket on such device an contact person can easliy be found.
