I would like to conduct a hardware asset inventory using ServiceNow.
This primarily involves taking inventory of the PCs, tablets, and mobile devices used within the company.
There is an option called “Inventory > Asset Audit” in the Hardware Assets workspace. Is this the feature I should use to conduct the inventory?
Please also let me know if there are any other out-of-the-box (OOTB) features that can be used to perform the inventory.
Thank you in advance.

Hi @Koki Sugimori,
Yes, with a couple of clarifications
Asset Audit: This is used for physical inventory audits of stockrooms and locations. Assets are scanned using the ServiceNow Agent app and the scanned assets are reconciled against ServiceNow records.
Asset Attestation: Employees can confirm or deny ownership of their assigned serialized hardware through Employee Center or Now Mobile. If they select Yes, the attestation status is updated to Yes and the attestation date is recorded. If they select No, a remediation task is created.
Recurring verification: Yes. Asset Attestation supports recurring schedules. You can specify the Frequency (days), start date, and end date. The ITAM Common – Asset attestation daily job checks the schedules and creates attestations according to the configured frequency.
Remediation: When an employee selects No, the remediation task can be reviewed and completed by an asset manager or inventory administrator. The OOTB process provides the remediation task, but the organization's actual investigation/corrective-action policy can determine what happens operationally. The documented completion process results in the asset being set to Missing and the Assigned to field being cleared.
Asset Audit → physical/location inventory reconciliation
Asset Attestation → employee ownership confirmation
Attestation Schedule → recurring verification
Remediation Task → follow-up when employee denies ownership

Thank you.
That helped me understand it better.
Regarding the Asset Audit, there are two methods for scanning assets: single scan and multi-scan.
Do you know what the difference is between them?

Hi @Koki Sugimori,
Yes. The difference is mainly the scanning method:
- Single scan: Scan/identify one asset at a time.
- Multi-scan: Scan multiple assets during the same audit, which is more suitable for larger inventories.
Both use the same Asset Audit process and reconcile the scanned assets against the ServiceNow records to generate the audit results. ServiceNow Agent supports both single-scan and multi-scan inventory audits.
So, for a small number of assets, Single Scan may be convenient; for a stockroom or larger physical inventory, Multi-scan is generally more efficient.

I believe the ServiceNow Agent app uses the camera to scan barcodes.
Is my understanding correct that “single scan” means scanning only one barcode per scan, while “multi-scan” allows you to scan multiple barcodes in a single scan?
