Hardware Models normalized to the wrong product

We just implemented HAM Pro in our environment and we are experiencing some interesting situations with the normalization service.  The models that currently exist in our system, which were created by Discovery, appear to be properly normalized.  However, these models are missing the model number.  As an example, our Dell Latitude 7520 laptops have the following fields:

  • Manufacturer = Dell, Inc
  • Name = Latitude 7520
  • Model number = <blank>

This model is fully normalized as "Dell Inc. Latitude 7000 Series 7520".  But since the model number is blank, I updated it as "7520".  When I save, this record gets normalized to a different product - a Dell Precision 7520.  Looking in the content library, it looks like there are multiple Dell products with the same 7520 model number.  So it seems I have 2 options:

  1. Remove the model number from the record so that the normalization status remains "Normalized".
  2. Revert the normalization and manually normalize the model

Is there a best practice or recommended approach?  I was not sure if I manually normalize the model if the content service will eventually update it to "Normalized", since we have opted in?

I appreciate any suggestions!

I also have a similar question. We use Dell Latitudes and when I look up the current model i.e. the 5550, I get a lot of different results all under the Dell Latitude 5000 series banner with just a model code at the end. This is not helpful to us as we need to know what is a Dell Latitude 5550 and what is a Latitude 5520, is it possible to update the naming conventions for these devices without manually entering them all in as custom models? eg. Can we make the name Dell Latitude 5000 series 5550 *insert model number*
