We've switched the Asset record to use Life Cycle Stage and Life Cycle Stage Status. We're trying to find something that shows the mapping between the Asset values and the CI values. They aren't a one-for-one match, but we haven't been able to identify how we can tell if we change a status on the Asset what it will become on the CI and vice versa. All the mappings we're finding are for legacy values. Is there a table in ServiceNow with this new mapping? Has anyone found someone who has documented this outside of the tool?

I just got frustrated by not finding anything and spent the last few hours testing. It seems like the Asset Life Cycle Stage/Status maps directly to the same CI Life Cycle Stage/Status. Where it gets confusing is that it will map to a value that isn't in the list to choose. For instance:
On an Asset, Pending Disposal is under End of Operation. On a CI, Pending Disposal is under both End of Operation and End of Life. Even though you can't select Pending Disposal as a valid Status under End of Life on an Asset, if you set the CI to End of Life/Pending Disposal, the Asset will also be End of Life/Pending Disposal.

Some times solutions built by ServiceNow doesn't help you meet your business goals and if that happens ServiceNow is open for new ideas and feedback. If you have access you can feel free to use Idea Portal to post your idea. Any idea that gets maximum votes are most likely to get built and introduced in future release(s) in bits and chunks. It all depends on what business value is it producing.
I know where you are coming from. Building and deploying your own custom solution can sometimes lead to unforeseen technical debt but there is always a solution to it.
The reason I gave you those links was to help you see how people are meeting the similar business goals.
Hope it will help to some extent.

In the new white paper on CSDM v5 there is a part regarding life cycle mapping.
