Linking Service Catalog and Stock

Hi All,

I'm just reviewing our asset estate at present, and wondered if anyone knows of a way to link a hardware model with a catalog item so that it displays either "In Stock" or "Out of stock" within the Service Catalog.

The concept behind this, is that I'd like an automatic lookup against all out stockrooms, so that if the item is out of stock, it displays this on the catalog, and allows the customer to place a "backorder" request for the item.

i.e. we have 0 Dell Keyboards in stock, therefore Joe Bloggs can place an order in the catalogue, our procurement team then source it, and it's handed to Joe when back in stock.

Currently, we have to do a manual lookup to identify when/if we have stock of the item, so customers may place orders assuming they're in stock by default, I'd rather the customer knew first of all so they understand they have to wait for the kit.

You can introduce a custom variable( use variable set actually) that does exactly what out of box field for Consume does on sourcing tasks.

1- Look at the current user location

2- Replicate the consume function

But you should be looking from a customer standpoint, if you intend to set expectations about delivery time, you can update delivery time based on historical information.

Thanks Kumar, but we have a set SLA on all our requests if items are in stock.

We simply need to show Stock Quantities, and append a message if we hit 0 stating the item will be on backorder. The customer will receive no delivery time expectation as this is out of scope for us, our SLA simply includes fulfilment of obtaining the item and handing to facilities.
