Serial number duplicated in hardware table

Hi all,

I just discovered that HP (and I believe other manufacturers) reuses their serial number range every 10 years.

We got one case that an old computer serial is the same as a new one acquired by the company. Luckly, in this case, the old computer is retired, and we can somehow change its serial number to something else and add the new one.

However, this raised me some concerns of what could happen, since we might have the chance of having 2 computers with same serial number "in use", as we are using Servicenow to apply the Inutne role to receive the company's Windows image.

Questions to the community:

- Does the "duplicate serial number" treating something OOTB solution in Servicenow, or was something that is allowed, and my company restricted it for some reason? Currently in our Servicenow, no duplicate serial number is allowed in alm_hardware table;

- If you are allowing serial number like this case I mentioned, how do you treat this in the system? Are the assets simply stored with the duplicated serial number? Also, if you have any Intune deployment, how does that work?

Thanks for any inoput on that!
