Hi,
Can you explain simply what exactly 'rank' means while distribution channel is set up?
And give example?
Regards
Danma

Hi @DanMa ,
Rank: It is a numerical value that indicates the priority of a distribution channel (such as a stockroom) when selecting where to source hardware assets from. The lower the rank number, the higher the priority. For example, a stockroom with a rank of 1 will be considered before a stockroom with a rank of 2 when fulfilling a hardware asset request.
Example:
Imagine you have a company with several stockrooms across different locations:
- Stockroom A (New York) - Rank: 1
- Stockroom B (Los Angeles) - Rank: 2
- Stockroom C (Chicago) - Rank: 3
When a request for a laptop comes in, ServiceNow will check the stockrooms based on their rank:
- First, it will check Stockroom A (New York) because it has the highest priority (rank 1).
- If Stockroom A does not have the laptop in stock, ServiceNow will move to Stockroom B (Los Angeles) with the next highest priority (rank 2).
- If neither Stockroom A nor Stockroom B have the laptop, it will finally check Stockroom C (Chicago) with rank 3.
By setting these ranks, you can control and optimize the fulfillment process, ensuring that requests are sourced from the most preferred locations first, potentially reducing shipping time and costs.
In summary, the rank is a way to prioritize and sequence the selection of stockrooms in the asset fulfilment process within ServiceNow's HAM module.
If you find my response helpful, please consider marking it as the 'Accepted Solution' and giving it a 'Helpful' rating. Your feedback not only supports the community but also encourages me to continue providing valuable assistance.
Thanks,
