Stop Hardware Asset from creating duplicate configuation items

In my PDI, if I try to do an insert and stay (for ease of recreating problem) I get a message - Error Message

Error: Duplicate Entry - Matching Configuration Item found.
In my actual instance, I do not get this error, and I create duplicate CI's. Can anyone tell me where this check is happening?

That message is typically one that comes from when the IRE (Identification and Reconciliation Engine) is being used to enforce asset serial numbers to be unique. Review the property shown below in your environment. My guess is that it is currently set to 'false' whereas in your out of box environment it is 'true'.
