Substitute models are those models which are defined as substitutes for a particular model. It is applicable only for transfer orders and not applicable for procurement. E.g. If an asset which is of the requested model is not available in stock, an asset of another model which is defined as a substitute in the model record will be considered for transfer (if that is available in stock). The following URL has steps on how to add a substitute model:

https://docs.servicenow.com/en-US/bundle/utah-it-asset-management/page/product/product-catalog/task/...

Compatible models are basically for the purpose of simply tracking models which are compatible to work together. Following URL explains how to add a compatible model:

https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/utah-it-asset-management/page/product/product-catalog/task/t_Addi...

Thank you for your reply

I have also seen the document and do not understand how to use compatible models for collaboration, or what is applicable in what scenarios?

Substitute models are for scenarios like transfer orders and asset swaps. The models defined as substitutes can be used for transfers and swaps if the requested model is not available in stock.

Compatible models seem to be only for the purpose of tracking compatible models. I could find no additional explanation regarding this anywhere on the servicenow docs, nowlearning, highspot etc.

Thank you for your help. I will look for the relevant documents again
