What is usage of parent model category?

Hi.

I have a lot of assets need to be moved to another model category 'P' from 'C' to make asset can be used in HAM.

So I've found an alternative that using parent model category,

I'm considering to specify model category 'P' as parent of model category 'C' instead of mass changing of model category.

What I wonder is intention or supposed use case of parent model category and what should I care more.

I would suggest to sticking to OOB model categories when possible, if you are migrating form a custom model category to an OOB one I would say the effort might be worth it. The other uses for parent/child classes is reporting, automating around categories, and HAM resources categories.
