Richard Branson once said, "Success in business is all about people, people, people. Whatever industry a company is in, its employees are its biggest competitive advantage." Retaining top talent is critical to an organization's success, and now more than ever, employers are placing an emphasis on their most valuable asset: their people.

According to a recent Gallup poll, "Millennials also show less willingness to stay in their current jobs. Half of millennials—compared with 60% of non-millennials—strongly agree that they plan to be working at their company one year from now." One reason that has been noted as an attributing factor to this mentality is low employee engagement. When organizations place an emphasis on the employee experience, we see employees form a greater connection with their employer, and ultimately are invested in their company's success.

One interesting way of exploring employee engagement is through psychology, specifically Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Check out the infographic below to see how the Hierarchy of Needs can influence employee engagement.

We can see that when employees are closer to the state of being engaged, their commitment strengthens.   Organizations that are known as a best place to work are often staffed with employees who want to stay for the duration of their professional career, and the reason seems somewhat simple: they love their job. What resources do you have in place to drive employee engagement and enthusiasm?
