Attaching a personalized document to a Lifecycle event email notification

Hello,
I have been asked to send managers an email with a pdf attachment to recognize an employee's one year anniversary. We would like the employee's name merged into the pdf document so that the manager can just print it out without filling anything in. We have a large front-line workforce, so using campaign banners, etc. isn't as effective as they are not in ServiceNow often.
I have added an activity to an onboarding Lifecycle Event which sends an email notification to the manager with the employee's name, etc. merged in. But that really just works as a reminder for the manager, there is nothing for them to hand to the employee. I just don't know how to get it as an attached document.
Has anyone had a similar request? Thanks in advance for any ideas!
