You see this error only when list view editing is disabled via various methods.
1. Read only ACL = disable list editing for certain roles or conditions.
Client Script Logic: If a client script explicitly sets a field to be read-only, it can prevent editing from the list view.
Check ACL, CLient script, business rules that prevent the list editing for a particular table.
