Hello, I am looking to understand from other organisations how they have transitioned from separate employee portals (such as IT and HR) into one unified employee center. What challenges did you face and what successes have you seen? We are currently debating this move ourselves but really looking for insight from other ServiceNow customers!

Employee center (EC) configuration is different than Service Portal (SP) configuration. EC configuration is based the Content taxonomy for both catalog item and KB articles, but SP is configured based on catalog category.
ServiceNow provides good document - Migrate to Employee Center from Service Portal we followed for our project for your reference.
You can also see this video- Employee Center Academy: Migrating from Service Portal to Employee Center from ServiceNow.

Hi John thanks for the reply! I am actually interested in both technical and non technical aspects of the unified portal. Today we have separate IT teams who run an IT portal and seapate HR teams running an HR portal. Unifying the employee service will be a big organisatinal change for us. Did this have any operational / org structure challenges for you? any changes in ways of working? for example setting up the CoE to support this? I'd also love to hear how your end users have found it and any other major benefits you have seen

Hi @Kateellen1 ,
Moving from separate portals to an employee center in ServiceNow can provide several benefits for organizations:
-
Improved employee experience: Employees can access all the services and information they need in one central location, which can lead to a better experience overall. They can easily navigate through different services and tasks, and get the information they need quickly.
-
Increased efficiency: By having all the services and information in one place, employees can complete tasks and requests more efficiently. This can help reduce the amount of time and effort required to complete tasks, and allow employees to focus on more important work.
-
Better data management: By centralizing all employee data and information, it can be easier to manage and track data across the organization. This can help with reporting, compliance, and other data-related tasks.
-
Cost savings: Maintaining separate portals for different organizations can be costly in terms of development, maintenance, and support. By consolidating all services and information into one employee center, organizations can save on these costs.
-
Standardization: By using a standardized platform and interface for all employees, it can help ensure consistency across the organization. This can be especially beneficial for larger organizations or those with multiple locations or business units.
There is no separate COEs though apart from the ones which is available and enabled and used by your company.

Thanks Sandeep this is useful but would love to hear from an organisation who has implemented this to see what benefits they found and what challenges they encountered
